I am from July days in the pool And running through the sprinklers. From my imaginary friends and The games we used to play like Doctor and patient and teacher and student. I am from trips to the grocery store And that time I fell out of the cart onto the Sticky linoleum floor. I am from the tap tap tap Of my tap shoes that one week That I decided to be a dancer. I am from trying new things. I am from rainy days And board games, Saturday cartoons and Cheerios. I am from walks on the beach And the sand on my feet, And not wanting to go home after vacation. I am from Barbies and Polly Pockets From playing with my sister, The other half of me. I am from books and flashlights And pens and paper. From silence to screaming. I am from tears on my pillow And unanswered cries. From holding your hand And that look in your eyes. I am from past and present And dreams of the future. I am from hard work and Harder play. And I am from writing down my thoughts On a midsummer’s day. |

I am from a weightless sea Dormant, floating, ripping by Above the crowd absorbing me Congested lungs breathe in the sky I am from the open air I am from the silver bird Carving through the fading ink Resounding; never heard I am from the clear crisp winds The brace beneath the wing I am from the aspiring climb To where the eagle sings I am from the lifting off From horizons, far as the eye can see Into the incessant blue escape Captivating; Free "I Am From" by Leaf44 I am from my father’s voice, Reading smoothly lines, Even though I don’t understand yet, While cradled in his arms. I am from my mother’s mind With swirling imagination And a raw creativity Before she realizes it herself. I am from young nights spent awake, Lying silently and still, Dreaming up plots and scenes That play over in my head. I am from pages turned By nimble fingers, And words eaten up Oblivious to all else. I am from days spent Looking as if doing nothing While storms rage and fires billow, All within my mind. I am from hidden grief, Outward longing, Suffocating fear, And encompassing need. I am from scribbled notes And frantic pages tipped, Overflowing down my desk And spilling to the floor. I am from a burning hope, And a desperate dream That spreads like fire Through my veins. I am from determination And ambition flowing Out my fingers and pouring Into the words on a page. |
